Phil Sgrosso Quits As I Lay Dying Citing Unhealthy and Unsafe Environment
Phil Sgrosso, the longtime rhythm guitarist of the metalcore band As I Lay Dying, has announced his departure from the group. This decision comes just six days after the band’s drummer, Nick Pierce, and guitarist, Ken Susi, also left the band.
Sgrosso cited that the recent actions within the band have shown that As I Lay Dying “no longer offers a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved”. This statement reflects the growing concerns and tensions within the band that have led to the recent exodus of key members.
Phil Sgrosso joined As I Lay Dying at the age of 17 and has been a significant contributor to the band’s music, including songwriting credits on several albums such as *Shadows Are Security* and *Awakened*. During his tenure, the band achieved notable success, including multiple San Diego Music Awards and a Grammy nomination for the song “Nothing Left” in 2008.
The departure of Sgrosso, along with Pierce and Susi, leaves the band in a state of significant upheaval. As I Lay Dying had recently released a new album, *Through Storms Ahead*, in 2024, but the future of the band now appears uncertain.
