X Platform Struggles After Massive Outage Due to Data Center Fire

Hillsboro, Oregon – The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is recovering from a significant outage that began on May 22. Reports of issues peaked at around 2,500, with users unable to sign in, send direct messages, and experiencing various performance problems.
The outage was officially attributed to a data center failure, as confirmed by X’s engineering account on May 22. They stated, “X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today. We are experiencing a data center outage and the team is actively working to remediate the issue.”
According to anonymous sources, the outage was linked to a fire in a data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, which is leased by X. Emergency services were called to deal with the blaze, which reportedly impacted many users globally.
By May 23, users continued to face difficulties, with many unable to log in due to issues with two-factor authentication (2FA). Affected users took to social media to share potential workarounds to regain access.
As of May 24, reports of issues began to rise again, reaching over 6,000 following a brief lull. Despite some functionality being restored, many were still encountering login errors and sending direct messages.
The developers indicated that they were making progress, but the platform hasn’t fully returned to normal. Their status page still showed degraded performance on several key features, especially the login services that many users rely on.
The situation remains fluid, with X working around the clock to resolve ongoing issues and restore complete service to its users.
