Podcaster Theo Von Criticizes DHS for Misusing His Deportation Video

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Podcaster Theo Von has publicly condemned the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for using an edited version of his video to highlight the Trump administration’s deportation efforts. The incident, which emerged early on September 24, 2025, angered Von, who claims he did not authorize the video’s usage.
In the original video, Von, known for his popular podcast, offers a supportive message to a fan whose friend was recently deported. The DHS altered the footage to suit its narrative, including scenes of detention and boasting about the administration’s record on deportations, which totals approximately 400,000, according to the department.
“Yooo DHS I didn’t approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check. And please take this down and please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos,” Von tweeted. He further stated, “When it comes to immigration, my thoughts and heart are a lot more nuanced than this video allows. Bye!”
The 40-year-old comedian, whose full name is Theodor Capitani von Kurnatowski III, played a significant role in mobilizing young voters for Trump during the 2024 campaign. However, he has since distanced himself from the administration on various issues, including immigration and foreign policy.
In a previous podcast appearance, Von expressed conflicting feelings about immigration practices, stating, “It’s sick when you see children crying and people being taken from their parents; it’s heartbreaking.” He acknowledged the challenges of the U.S. immigration system while also suggesting there are laws that need to be followed.
On the day before the incident, DHS faced backlash for using Pokémon-themed imagery in another promotional video, further raising questions about the agency’s content strategies. The Daily Beast reached out to both Theo Von and DHS for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
