New York Election Day 2025

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, marks Election Day in New York, where voters will head to the polls to elect key city officials, including the mayor, public advocate, and comptroller. Additional elections will determine the borough president and City Council members, along with special court elections.

Polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day. While it is not a federal holiday, New York considers it a state holiday, leading to the closure of city government offices and city and state courts. The status of the day is optional for state employees.

Most banks and businesses will remain operational, though some retailers may adjust their hours to provide employees time to vote. Trash pickup, curbside composting, and recycling services will be suspended on Tuesday, Nov. 4; residents typically scheduled for these services should plan to set their materials out for collection starting Wednesday, Nov. 5.

For questions about Sanitation services and holiday schedules, residents can contact 311 or check the Department of Sanitation New York (DSNY) website. U.S. Post Offices will be open on Tuesday, and mail delivery will proceed as usual, along with deliveries from UPS and FedEx.

The MTA buses and Staten Island Ferry will run on their normal weekday schedules. All branches of the New York Public Library will also operate as usual, and Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be open. Notably, alternate side parking rules will be suspended, but all other parking regulations, including parking meters, will still apply.
