President Tinubu Approves Establishment of Special Panel for Social Investment Programmes Review and Reform
President Bola Tinubu has given his approval to the establishment of a Special Presidential Panel tasked with conducting a comprehensive review and reform of the social investment programmes that were suspended last month. This panel will be led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun.
The decision to set up the Special Presidential Panel comes just one day after Tinubu suspended all administered Social Investment Programmes by the National Social Investment Programme Agency, including the school-feeding programme. The suspension was announced in view of the ongoing investigation into alleged malfeasance in the management of the agency and its programmes, as stated in a press release signed by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen.
In light of the six-week suspension of the four programmes, Tinubu has tasked the Edun-led panel with immediately undertaking a comprehensive review and audit of the existing financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the social investment programmes. This information was shared in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, with the title ‘President Tinubu establishes special presidential panel on social investment programmes.’
The main goal of the panel is to implement a total re-engineering of the financial architecture of the programmes, with detailed modifications to the procedures guiding their implementation moving forward.
