OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A strong cold front is set to change the summer-like weather that many regions have experienced recently. High temperatures reached nearly 90 degrees on Thursday and Friday, with similar conditions expected Saturday.

The warm weather brought highs close to 90 degrees, just shy of the record high of 92 degrees set in 1938. Winds from the south will gust up to 40 mph, raising concerns about fire hazards due to the dry air and vegetation in the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Holt County, which is effective from noon to 10 p.m., urging residents to avoid outdoor burning as fires could spread rapidly.

As the cold front pushes through Sunday afternoon, temperatures will transition from a high of 80 degrees to cooler readings. Highs will range from the mid-70s in western Siouxland to the mid-80s in eastern areas. The forecast also predicts isolated showers and potential thunderstorms in the afternoon, with some areas possibly receiving up to one inch of rain.

By Monday, the drop in temperature will be noticeable, with highs only reaching the low 60s. A mix of sun and clouds is anticipated, with isolated showers remaining a possibility as the cooler fall weather settles in.

Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-70s throughout the week, providing a stark contrast to the record-setting summer days experienced earlier in October.

Residents are advised to prepare for the cooler temps, especially gardeners, as lows could dip into the 30s at night, increasing the risk of frost.
