Reddit Outage Error Page On Computer Screen

NEW YORK, USA — Reddit users faced significant outages on Friday evening, with disruptions lasting nearly two hours and impacting people across various regions, including the United States and parts of India. The issues began around 7:30 PM ET, leaving many unable to access the site, send messages, or view their profiles.

Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, reported a surge of over 80,000 outage notifications at the peak of the situation. Users took to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration, with many receiving a ‘page not found’ error when trying to load the site.

Users reported a variety of issues: “My chats are down, people are like privately messaging me and they won’t load in,” tweeted one user. Another shared, “All the profiles, including my own return ‘page not found.’” Reports came in steadily after the service failure, echoing similar complaints regarding accessibility across platforms.

In an update posted by Reddit at 8:40 PM ET, the company stated, “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.” By 9:47 PM ET, Reddit announced that the incident had been resolved. However, the company had not issued an immediate response to media inquiries regarding the outages.

Earlier in the day, some users also experienced what Reddit termed “international outages,” as reported by global internet monitor NetBlocks. While some users were unaffected, the widespread problems prompted plenty of feedback on social media.

Downdetector indicated that the most affected areas included major cities such as Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad in India, alongside Dallas, Denver, and Los Angeles in the U.S. Issues experienced included difficulty in posting comments, accessing feeds, and uploading profile pictures. As of the latest updates, Reddit had not provided a detailed overview of the causes of the outages, leading to ongoing speculation among users.

The impact of these outages comes as part of a broader trend of service disruptions that have affected Reddit in recent weeks. Some users expressed concerns over the frequency of these outages, questioning the platform’s reliability. One user stated, “Reddit going down every 3 days is actually getting to me.”

As the platform continues to address these connectivity issues, users are encouraged to report problems they encounter to aid the technical team in diagnosing and resolving underlying issues.
