Rigetti Computing, Inc. (NASDAQ: RGTI) is positioning itself as a leading contender in the quantum computing race, with its stock surging 313% in a single month following optimistic projections from investment firm Craig-Hallum. The Berkeley-based company, known for its superconducting quantum processors, has garnered attention for its advancements in quantum technology, particularly with the release of its 84-qubit Ankaa-3 quantum computer.

The Ankaa-3 system boasts superior two-qubit gate fidelities, achieving 99.0% for iSWAP gates and 99.5% for fSim gates, alongside reduced error rates. These improvements are critical for practical applications in cryptography, drug discovery, and other industries. Rigetti plans to roll out a 36-qubit modular system by mid-2025, targeting a 2x reduction in error rates from current levels.

Craig-Hallum initiated coverage of Rigetti with a ‘Buy’ rating and a $12 price target, citing the company’s potential to outpace competitors in the quantum computing sector. The firm highlighted Rigetti’s ability to scale its quantum business and its focus on improving fidelities, which are essential for commercial viability.

Quantum computing, which leverages quantum physics to solve complex problems exponentially faster than classical computers, is poised to revolutionize industries such as healthcare, finance, and transportation. The U.S. government has also shown strong support for the sector, with the Department of Energy proposing $2.5 billion in funding over five years through the Quantum Leadership Act of 2024.

According to McKinsey, quantum computing could reduce global carbon emissions by 7 gigatons by 2035 and add $1.3 trillion in value to key industries. Grand View Research predicts significant growth in the U.S. quantum computing market, driven by increased government and private sector investments.

Rigetti Computing ranks 7th on Insider Monkey‘s list of the best quantum computing stocks to buy for 2025. While the company’s potential is undeniable, analysts caution that the quantum computing sector remains highly speculative, with pure-play stocks like Rigetti carrying significant risk due to their early-stage revenue streams and high cash burn rates.
