Robert Davi on Trump’s Victory: Hollywood’s Disconnect and Media Accountability
Actor Robert Davi, known for his roles in iconic films like ‘Die Hard,’ ‘The Goonies,’ and ‘License to Kill,’ has weighed in on the recent victory of President-elect Donald Trump. In an interview with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, Davi discussed the significant disconnect between Hollywood and the broader American public following Trump’s win in both the electoral college and the popular vote.
Davi highlighted the emotional reactions from celebrities and media personalities, such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, who had openly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. He described the scene at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on the night of the victory as reminiscent of the 1976 film ‘Rocky,’ with a mix of anticipation, elation, and relief.
The actor criticized the dominant culture in Hollywood and the media for their persistent condemnation of Trump and his supporters. Davi argued that despite some exceptions, the media has been instrumental in perpetuating false narratives about Trump since his entry into politics in 2015. He suggested that a law similar to the ancient Roman ‘calumnia clause,’ which penalized false accusations, could help rein in the media’s polarizing influence.
Davi also received celebratory messages from around the world, including Scandinavia, the Balkans, and the Baltics, following Trump’s victory. He emphasized the need for media accountability and governmental action to address the deep-seated issues within Hollywood and the broader media landscape.
In addition, Davi criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for his handling of the situation, suggesting that Newsom is now trying to correct course too late and is positioning himself for future political ambitions).
