Rockdale County Schools Shift to Remote Learning Amid Inclement Weather
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga.—Rockdale County Schools announced a shift to remote learning and work for Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, due to anticipated severe weather conditions. Superintendent Terry Oatts confirmed that all school buildings will remain closed, and extracurricular activities will be canceled or rescheduled.
“We will continue to monitor the weather for Wednesday and will send updates as appropriate. We hope you stay safe and warm during this time,” the school district stated in a public announcement. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff as the region braces for inclement weather.
Independent Learning Days, implemented during weather-related closures, allow students to continue their education remotely while staff work from home. This approach has become a standard practice for the district in recent years, particularly during winter months when severe weather is more likely.
Parents and guardians were notified of the closure through the district’s communication channels, including email, text alerts, and social media updates. The district emphasized the importance of staying informed about potential changes to the schedule as weather conditions evolve.
Rockdale County Schools, which serves approximately 16,000 students, has faced similar weather-related disruptions in the past. The district’s proactive approach to closures has been praised for prioritizing safety while maintaining educational continuity.
