RENTON, Wash. — Quarterback Sam Darnold decided to sign with the Seattle Seahawks during NFL free agency after experiencing tremendous success with the Minnesota Vikings last season. Darnold threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, leading the Vikings to a strong 14-3 record.

Despite his impressive performance, Darnold is eager to prove himself again with the Seahawks. Shaun Alexander, a legendary running back for Seattle who won the league MVP in 2005, expressed confidence in Darnold’s potential to excel with the new team.

“I think he’s going to be better this year than he was last year with us, and I think they got the right offensive coordinator for him,” Alexander told Fox News Digital. He highlighted the positive atmosphere during practice, stating, “The system looks right for him.”

Darnold reunites with Klint Kubiak, who served as the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints last season and worked with Darnold in the past. The Seahawks’ offense is undergoing significant changes, especially after trading star receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Alexander sees potential for the Seahawks with new additions like Cooper Kupp and a solid running game featuring Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. He confidently predicted that the Seahawks could be a strong playoff contender this season, estimating their record could be 11-6.

“I think they’re going to beat the right teams and shock somebody,” he said. “It’s going to be very hard to beat them at home.” Darnold will have to face his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, in the season opener on September 7, 2025.

In addition to discussing Darnold’s future, Alexander recently participated in the USAA Salute to Service NFL Boot Camp, where he engaged with military personnel. His family has military ties, with his brother serving as a veteran, adding personal significance to the event.

“You’re a hero to somebody,” Alexander shared, emphasizing respect for military service and the dedication it entails. As the Seahawks prepare for their season, the atmosphere is charged with optimism and high expectations for Darnold and the team.
