Scorsese to Direct DiCaprio and Lawrence in ‘What Happens at Night’

LOS ANGELES, CA — Director Martin Scorsese is set to begin work on his next film, an adaptation of the ghost story novel “What Happens at Night,” featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the lead roles. The project is slated to start filming in January.
Apple Original Films is in discussions to finance and produce the film alongside Studiocanal, which acquired the rights to Peter Cameron‘s acclaimed novel in 2023. Patrick Marber, an Oscar nominee for his work on “Notes on a Scandal,” has penned the screenplay.
The storyline revolves around an American couple who travel to a snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into the Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel, where they encounter an array of eccentric characters, including a flamboyant singer and a dubious businessman. As they navigate the challenges of adoption, the couple faces unexpected trials that challenge their understanding of themselves and their relationship.
Scorsese and DiCaprio have collaborated on multiple projects, with “What Happens at Night” marking their seventh film together. This project will be Scorsese’s first time directing Lawrence, although he produced her upcoming feature, “Die, My Love,” which premiered at Cannes and is scheduled for release in theaters this fall.
DiCaprio is currently starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film “One Battle After Another,” which is set to release next weekend. Meanwhile, Lawrence’s latest film is generating buzz ahead of its theatrical debut.
As the film progresses, Scorsese is also exploring other projects, including a Hawaii-set crime drama reportedly featuring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. The excitement builds as the collaboration between Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Lawrence comes together for this unique adaptation.
