Senate Replaces Ali Ndume as Chief Whip Following APC Directive
The Senate has taken a significant decision by removing Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip and appointing Senator Tahir Monguno in his place. This move came after a directive sent by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Umar Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, put the request to voice votes, which were unanimously in favor of the change.
The All Progressives Congress accused Ndume of making detrimental comments against the administration of President Bola Tinubu in the directive. The letter emphasized the negative impact of his statements on the government’s image and efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investments. As a result, Ndume was not only relieved of his position as Chief Whip but also as Vice-Chairman of the Appropriation Committee.
In a reshuffling of roles, Ndume was named as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism. Additionally, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, the senator representing Ondo Central, was appointed as the new chair of the judiciary and legal matters committee, replacing Monguno in that position.
This isn’t the first time Ndume has faced such a removal. In the previous Senate under Bukola Saraki’s leadership, Ndume was also ousted from his role as the Senate leader in January 2017. The political landscape continues to evolve as this latest change reshapes the leadership hierarchy within the Senate.
