Senator Kwankwaso Declares Intention To Revisit Creation Of Kano Emirates

Former governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his intention to revisit the issue of the creation of five new Emirates by the current administration in Kano. In a live interview programme on Thursday night, Kwankwaso expressed his desire to discuss and potentially restructure the Kano Emirates.

Kwankwaso stated that nobody has approached him to discuss the matter so far, but he firmly believes that the actions taken regarding the Kano Emirates were not done in good faith. He emphasized that the issue would be revisited and proper decisions made, keeping the best interests of the people in mind.

Additionally, Kwankwaso touched on the recent merger of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with other political parties. He highlighted that the doors of the party are always open for discussions with interested parties, reinforcing the need for dialogue and collaboration in Nigerian politics.

In 2019, the former governor and current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, divided the Kano Emirate into five, resulting in the creation of Gaya, Bichi, and Rano Karaye Emirates. The 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was subsequently dethroned in the process.

Following the recent Supreme Court victory of the NNPP, Kwankwaso shared that the government of Abba Kabir Yusuf would review the dethronement and the division of the Kano Emirate. This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from residents who have been protesting for the reversal of these decisions and the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the sole Emir of Kano.

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been faced with calls for change and the restoration of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano. During a rally at Fili Mahaha, following the Supreme Court verdict, supporters chanted “Sabon Gwamna! Sabon Sarki!” (New Governor! New Emir!) and called for the return of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

This development marks a significant turn of events in the politics of Kano State, as stakeholders engage in discussions and actions to address the concerns surrounding the Kano Emirates. The future decisions regarding the governance and leadership of the emirates will have a lasting impact on the socio-political landscape of the region.
