Seyi Tinubu Donates 500 Million Naira to Aid Maiduguri Flood Victims
Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, made a significant financial contribution to assist victims of the recent flood in Maiduguri. The flood, which devastated 70 percent of the city and displaced millions, prompted a donation of 500 million Naira from Seyi and his associates during a visit on September 21, 2024.
Accompanied by his brother and several friends, Seyi Tinubu traveled to Maiduguri to demonstrate solidarity and offer support. “We are here today, not just as representatives of our family but as members of a collective effort of young Nigerians to bring hope and relief to those who need it most,” Seyi stated in a speech delivered at the state government house.
The gathered audience included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and other dignitaries. Seyi emphasized the resilience of the Borno people and expressed optimism about the state’s recovery. He further mentioned the importance of a collaborative effort, both from private individuals and the broader private sector, in addressing the aftermath of the tragedy.
In addition to the financial donation, Seyi and his team provided essential items to the affected community. These included 10,000 mosquito nets, blankets, mattresses, kettles, wrappers, buckets, mats, sanitary pads, and wash kits. Medical supplies covering critical prescriptions for nearly 50,000 children and adults were also distributed.
President Bola Tinubu had previously underscored the need for private sector involvement during his visit to Maiduguri earlier in the week. Inspired by his father’s call, Seyi, alongside his wife Layal, through the Noella Foundation, initiated the relief effort.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed gratitude for the support, promising that all donations would be utilized effectively to aid the displaced residents. Zulum commended the leadership and solidarity shown by Seyi and his team during the crisis.
