Shane Gillis to Host New ‘Saturday Night Live’ Episode Tonight

NEW YORK, NY — Tonight, March 1, 2025, comedian Shane Gillis will return to Studio 8H to host a brand new episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ marking his second time at the helm of the iconic sketch show. Gillis first hosted SNL last February, making a splash with his comedic style and bringing a unique energy to the show.
This week’s musical guest is Tate McRae, set to perform in support of her recently released album, ‘So Close to What.’ It’s a return engagement for McRae, who performed on the show in November 2023. As the episode airs at 11:30 p.m. EST, viewers can expect a mix of hilarious sketches and live music, characteristic of the legendary series.
“I’m really excited to return to SNL. It feels like getting back on a bike, although this bike has been through a wild ride,” Gillis said in a promotional video. He humorously reflected on his brief past as a cast member, having been hired in 2019 but fired shortly after when past controversial comments resurfaced.
Despite the early setback in his career, Gillis has gained a strong following, co-creating the popular comedy web series ‘Gilly & Keeves’ and appearing in stand-up specials on Netflix. He shared his comedic journey during an interview, stating, “I’m just here to make people laugh and enjoy the ride along the way.”
Tate McRae, also expressing her excitement for performing live, remarked, “Every time I get to be on SNL, it feels like a dream come true. Can’t wait to bring my new music to fans.” She has gained widespread popularity since her breakthrough as a finalist on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ in 2016 and has since released multiple successful singles and albums.
The March 1 episode will also revisit notable moments from the show’s 50-year legacy, as SNL continues its milestone anniversary celebrations. After tonight’s episode, pop superstar Lady Gaga is scheduled to host on March 8, where she will also perform as the musical guest, marking her fifth appearance on SNL and her second time doing both roles.
SNL continues to be a significant platform for comedians and musicians, helping many launch into successful careers. The show, which premiered in 1975, has garnered 95 Emmy Awards, solidifying its place in television history.
