Shankh Air, the latest entrant in the Indian airline industry, has secured approval from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to initiate operations. The No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted to Shankh Air is valid for a period of three years, but commencement of flights will still be contingent upon obtaining necessary clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The Uttar Pradesh-based airline is set to become the first scheduled carrier to launch in the state, with plans to establish its operational hubs in Lucknow and Noida. This strategic launch is aimed at enhancing connectivity to major cities across the country and focuses on routes with high demand and limited direct flight options.

Shankh Aviation Private Limited, the parent company of Shankh Air, is spearheaded by Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma, an entrepreneur who also serves as the chairman of the airline. According to the company’s website, the airline has engaged in discussions with international lessors regarding the acquisition of aircraft and is expected to announce further details soon.

The airline plans to operate a fleet of Boeing 737-800NG narrow-body aircraft and promises to enter the aviation market with competitive pricing and a focus on passengers’ comfort and ease of flying. “We are committed to providing the ultimate flying experience,” the airline stated, emphasizing its mission to bring a fresh perspective to India’s aviation sector.

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry’s approval letter, Shankh Air is required to comply with several regulations, including those related to foreign direct investment (FDI) and guidelines set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

Earlier in June, a meeting took place between Shankh Air Chairman Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma and the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. Discussions were held regarding the strategic direction of Shankh Air as a full-service startup airline. Furthermore, in March, the airline’s co-founders and management met with Noida International Airport’s CEO Christoph Schnellmann and COO Kiran Jain, focusing on collaborations to boost air connectivity enhancements in Uttar Pradesh.
