Sheikh Hasina Plans To Return To Bangladesh As Political Situation Evolves

Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, is gearing up to return home soon, according to her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He shared that she has not applied for asylum in any country and is focused on reviving her political party, the Awami League.

Joy emphasized that Hasina, who is currently in India after stepping down during recent protests, intends to make her way back when the situation stabilizes. He noted that there is a lot of misinformation circulating about her current status.

In a recent interview, Joy said, “There is a lot of misinformation. She has not applied for asylum anywhere, whether in the UK, the US, or Finland. She has no plans to go far from her country.” He highlighted her dedication to revitalizing the Awami League, hinting that the party would return to power in future elections.

Joy also mentioned that discussions about whether Hasina will continue her political career or step back are still ongoing. He stated, “No decision regarding this has been made yet. The Awami League requires a reshuffle, and she is focusing on that.”

Amid the backdrop of unrest in Bangladesh, which has seen violent protests demanding her ouster, Hasina’s family is determined to support their political base. Joy accused outside influences, specifically mentioning Pakistan’s ISI, of stirring up trouble.

With a new caretaker government sworn in to organize elections, Joy expressed hope for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh. He affirmed, “She will definitely return to Bangladesh once democracy is restored.”
