CHARLESTON, S.C. — On September 4, 2024, local police responded to a shooting incident at the Coastal Grass Way apartment complex in West Ashley.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m., according to a social media post by the Charleston Police Department. Initial reports indicate that the altercation involved two adult family members.

As a precautionary measure, police asked parents and students attending an event at West Ashley High School to move indoors while a search of the nearby wooded areas was conducted.

Sgt. Chris Stinson confirmed that no students were harmed or involved in the incident. The condition of the individual who was transported to a local hospital following the shooting remains unknown.
