Sony Announces PS5 System Update with Audio Focus and UI Customizations

Tokyo, Japan — Sony Interactive Entertainment is set to release a significant PlayStation 5 system update on April 24, 2025, introducing new features aimed at enhancing the gaming experience based on player feedback.
The update will roll out globally and includes two major additions: the Audio Focus feature and the return of classic console designs for the PS5 home screen. These updates are designed to improve accessibility and create a more immersive gaming experience.
Audio Focus allows players to amplify soft sounds, making it easier to hear in-game character dialogues and subtle auditory cues such as footsteps. Players can choose from four preset options and adjust the audio balance between left and right channels for personalized settings. This feature is available only for headphones connected via USB or an analog jack, and it does not support HDMI connections.
“We continue to work behind the scenes to bring new enhancements to the PS5 experience,” said the VP of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Audio Focus is a great addition for those looking to tailor their sound experience.”
In addition to the audio enhancements, Sony is bringing back nostalgic user interface customization options. During its 30th anniversary celebrations, the company received positive feedback from fans about classic PlayStation designs, prompting them to restore this feature for PS5 users.
The UI designs will pay homage to the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Users can select the classic appearance from the new Appearance menu within the Settings. Each theme reflects the unique aesthetics of the respective console eras.
“Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response, we’re thrilled to let players customize their home screen with these classic designs,” added the spokesperson.
As the update prepares to roll out, players are encouraged to check their console settings to ensure their systems are set to receive the latest software. This update promises to enhance the overall PS5 experience, bridging nostalgia with modern gameplay features.
