Sophia Umansky Discusses Hair Loss From Mounjaro Use

Los Angeles, California — Sophia Umansky, the daughter of reality TV star Kyle Richards, shared her experience with weight-loss medication Mounjaro on April 30, 2025. The 25-year-old revealed she has been taking the FDA-approved medication for the past four months to assist with weight loss.

Mounjaro, which is the brand name for tirzepatide, is primarily prescribed for individuals with Type 2 diabetes. The medication helps to reduce appetite and improve the body’s metabolism of sugar and fat. However, Umansky has encountered unwanted side effects, particularly hair loss.

In a video, she expressed concerns about her hair, stating, “I am very lucky that I have so much hair, because at the rate that I’ve been losing hair, I’m gonna be bald in about a week.” She noted that the hair loss began about three to four weeks after starting the medication.

Umansky showed viewers the hair she has lost, including accumulations in her bathroom. “I’m just going to show you a quick little video of what my hair loss looks like, and this is every day,” she explained, emphasizing that her reality is “a lot worse” than what she demonstrated.

Despite her worries, Umansky clarified that she does not believe the hair loss is directly caused by the medication. Instead, she attributes it to rapid weight loss and insufficient vitamin intake. “I think it’s a direct result of rapid weight loss because of the medication, and not eating enough vitamins, protein, all that kind of stuff,” she said. She is currently focusing on improving her nutrition and has started taking vitamins to address her concerns.

Experts note that her symptoms align with a condition called telogen effluvium, which can occur due to the stress of significant weight loss.

Umansky has been using OMI hair growth peptides and taking collagen and Grüns vitamins to help. Following her video, numerous TikTok users responded with both support and suggestions for managing her hair loss.

The star, known for her role in the reality show “Buying Beverly Hills,” emphasized her continued efforts to manage her health while navigating the challenges stemming from the use of Mounjaro.
