Abigail Spanberger Virginia Governor Race

RICHMOND, Va. — Democrat Abigail Spanberger leads Republican Winsome Earle-Sears by 7 points among likely voters in Virginia, according to a recent poll. Spanberger has 50% support compared to Earle-Sears’ 43%, with 6% still undecided. The poll, conducted in late October, highlights the dynamics as voters prepare for the state elections on November 4.

In the lieutenant governor race, Democrat Ghazala Hashmi holds a narrow lead over Republican John Reid, 47% to 45%, with 7% undecided. Meanwhile, in the attorney general race, incumbent Republican Jason Miyares leads Democrat Jay Jones by 1 point, 46% to 45%, with 8% undecided.

Top issues for Virginia voters are threats to democracy (18%), inflation (18%), healthcare (11%), and immigration (9%). Notably, 75% of respondents reported having heard about a text messaging scandal involving Jones, which could impact their vote choice.

Overall, enthusiasm among likely voters remains high, with 85% indicating they are either very or somewhat enthusiastic about the elections. There is little difference in enthusiasm between the parties, with 65% of Democrats and 60% of Republicans expressing high levels of excitement to vote.

As the election day approaches, all eyes are on how these factors will play out, particularly in light of the implications for broader political trends in Virginia, especially regarding the performance of federal workers affected by recent government shutdowns.
