Variety Power Of Women Event 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA — A star-studded Variety event took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday night, honoring influential women in media and entertainment. Hosted by Iliza Shlesinger, the evening celebrated the achievements of five honorees and highlighted critical issues facing women and children.

One of the standout moments came from actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who spoke passionately about her support for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the challenges it faces due to ICE raids. “The team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a testament to the power of women,” Curtis said. “People are afraid to go to the hospital because they fear being picked up by ICE agents.” Curtis emphasized the hospital’s urgent need for funding, stating, “The cuts that have been made are awful, and they are in desperate need right now.”

Kate Hudson, introduced by her friend Octavia Spencer, was the first honoree of the night. Hudson shared her perspective on motherhood and the importance of empowering children. “I know that if I have any power at all, I must do what I can to help,” she said. She stressed that the mission extends beyond their careers: “The work cannot stop when the cameras turn off.”

Next, actress Sydney Sweeney, introduced by Sharon Stone, discussed her role as boxing champion Christy Martin in an upcoming film. “I recognized something of myself in Christy,” Sweeney shared. “Every one of us has our own fight.” She highlighted the importance of resilience and the personal challenges many women face.

During the ceremony, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman received the Variety Courage Award. She reflected on the silent struggles of individuals in abusive relationships. “I’m thinking about those who feel there’s nowhere to go,” Raisman said, addressing the importance of support for those in need.

Wanda Sykes, cued by Jane Fonda, brought attention to the potential expiration of SNAP benefits during the ongoing government shutdown. “When women thrive, the community thrives,” Sykes emphasized. She called for projects that uplift women and recognize their vital role in society.

Nicole Scherzinger, honored by Eva Longoria, shared her experiences with the Special Olympics. “True power is shared and ignites others,” Scherzinger said, advocating for the importance of using influence to lift others.

Closing the night, Curtis reiterated the importance of growth and giving back, quoting a phrase from her home: “To live is to learn. To learn is to know. To know is to grow. To grow is to give. To give is to live.”
