Steelers Legends Jerome Bettis, ‘Mean’ Joe Greene Endorse Kamala Harris Ahead of Trump’s Game Appearance
In a significant political gesture, former Pittsburgh Steelers legends Jerome Bettis and ‘Mean’ Joe Greene, along with the family of the late Franco Harris, have publicly endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. This endorsement comes ahead of Republican candidate Donald Trump‘s appearance at the Steelers game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Jerome Bettis released a statement highlighting his support for Harris, emphasizing the values of hard work and integrity that define the city of Pittsburgh. “I know this city and I love this city – we work hard to make things happen. No hot air. No bull. This is what defines the Steel City – and it’s the opposite of what Donald Trump stands for,” Bettis said. He also criticized Trump for failing to deliver on his promises to the city, stating that Harris is the leader who will “roll up their sleeves and get the job done.”
The family of Franco Harris also voiced their support for Harris, noting that her values align with those instilled by the late running back. “Hard work and integrity are the bedrock of Western Pennsylvania and are values my father instilled in me. He taught me that true greatness is achieved by being a part of a team and that leadership is defined by the actions taken to help the whole team succeed,” they said. ‘Mean’ Joe Greene simply added, “You got my vote for sure.”
This endorsement contrasts with the support Trump received from other former Steelers players, Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, who attended a Trump rally in nearby Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday and are expected to be with Trump at the game.
The Steelers organization has announced new security protocols and warned fans about potential delays due to Trump’s attendance, working closely with the Secret Service and local authorities to ensure fan safety.
