Lethbridge Thunderstorm

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the City of Lethbridge and a large portion of southern Alberta. According to Environment Canada, weather conditions are conducive to the formation of severe thunderstorms, which could bring strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain to the area this morning. The severity of the storm may increase as the day progresses, potentially extending the threat into the afternoon.

The presence of large hail poses a risk of property damage and personal injury, while strong wind gusts may have the potential to disrupt loose items, damage poorly constructed buildings, break branches off trees, and overturn large vehicles. Moreover, heavy rainfall might lead to flash flooding and cause water to pool on roads, creating hazardous driving conditions.

In addition, a severe thunderstorm watch has been announced for most of southern Saskatchewan. This advisory, which was released Tuesday morning by Environment Canada, predicts the development of severe thunderstorm activity, particularly near the international border, later today or during the evening.

The storms are anticipated to move northwards as the evening progresses and might persist into the overnight hours across various parts of the south. The watch affects numerous areas, including Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn, Assiniboia, Swift Current, Maple Creek, and Shaunavon. Across the province, a total of 133 rural municipalities (RMs) and the communities within them are expected to be impacted by the storm system.
