Teen Found in Box After Meeting Man on Snapchat
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — A 13-year-old girl reported missing from Louisiana was found alive in a box at a Pittsburgh home on October 30. Authorities discovered her after a multi-state investigation involving the U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement agencies.
Ki-Shawn Crumity, 26, has been charged with human trafficking, sexual assault, and several other offenses after police located the girl in the basement of his home. The girl had disappeared after meeting Crumity through Snapchat, according to police reports.
Investigators tracked the teenager across several states following her disappearance, which was reported last week. The girl was found after federal agents shared information that led Pittsburgh police to a house in the Brighton Park neighborhood, where the girl was discovered trapped in a sheet-covered box.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill expressed her concerns about the dangers of social media, stating, “This child was groomed, exploited, and then sexually abused by strangers who found her online.”
Authorities revealed that upon her arrival in Pittsburgh, the girl was taken to a hospital where evidence of sexual assault was collected. She reported that Crumity repeatedly assaulted her during her stay at his home.
In addition to Crumity, two other men have been arrested in connection with the girl’s abduction. Ronald Smith, 62, was apprehended in Columbus, Georgia, facing accusations of simple kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
A third man, whose identity is not currently available, was arrested in New Orleans after allegedly admitting he was with the girl at a Greyhound bus station in Baton Rouge.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities conveying that additional arrests and charges may follow.
