Tension Erupts in Mumbai’s Mira Road Ahead of Ayodhya Event
Communal tension arose in Mumbai‘s Mira Road on Sunday night, just hours before the pran-pratistha ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Videos circulating on social media showed an incident involving vehicles with Lord Ram flags being attacked. To address the situation, the police conducted a flag march in the area, bringing the situation under control.
DCP Jayant Bajbale informed ANI that the tension arose when slogans were raised by people from the Hindu community in three to four vehicles. An argument occurred with individuals from the Muslim community, prompting the immediate arrival of police vehicles to the scene. The police took several people into custody to prevent further escalation.
The incident, captured on viral videos, depicted the cars being attacked in the middle of the road. The perpetrators smashed windows and hurled insults. However, the veracity of the videos could not be independently verified by Hindustan Times. DCP Jayant Bajbale clarified that the incident was not an instance of communal violence, but rather a petty fight that had escalated from an argument. He urged the public not to believe in rumors.
The Naya Nagar Police has registered a case against five people involved in the incident and has commenced an investigation. Following the flag march to restore peace, the situation in Mira Road has been brought under control.
