Thanksgiving Store Hours: What’s Open and Closed This Year
USA TODAY — As Thanksgiving approaches on Thursday, Nov. 27, many Americans are finalizing their travel plans and preparing to gather with family and friends. However, those needing to mail packages or pick up medication should plan ahead as several pharmacies and retailers will adjust their hours for the holiday.
Major pharmacy chains such as CVS and Walgreens have announced their schedules for Thanksgiving. A representative from CVS confirmed that most locations will be open during regular hours, but customers should check with their local stores for potential changes.
Walgreens will close most of its stores on Thanksgiving, except for select locations that operate 24 hours. Customers are encouraged to call their nearest Walgreens to confirm hours. In addition, pharmacies located within grocery chains such as Walmart, Costco, Kroger, and Sam's Club will be closed on the holiday, the companies confirmed.
For those needing to shop for last-minute items, some stores are extending hours. Big Lots will be open from 7 a.m. until midnight, while most CVS locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Major grocery stores like Giant Eagle and Ralph’s plan to operate with modified hours; Giant Eagle will be open until 3 p.m., and Ralph's is open until 10 p.m., although pharmacies at these locations will be closed.
Kindly remember that while some chains will keep their doors open, others will remain closed, including popular brands like Costco, Target, and Best Buy. These retailers, like many others, observe Thanksgiving as a holiday for their employees.
As a reminder, the U.S. Postal Service will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day. If you anticipate needing prescription refills or over-the-counter supplies this week, make sure to check local pharmacy hours ahead of your visit.
For more detailed information about the holiday hours of other retailers, customers are encouraged to check the store-specific websites.
