Tidal Flooding Advisory Issued for Alexandria’s Shoreline

Alexandria, Virginia — The National Weather Service has issued a tidal flooding advisory for Alexandria’s shoreline from midnight Saturday into early Monday morning. The advisory, released at 5:17 a.m. Saturday, warns that low-lying areas may see up to one foot of water above ground level due to tidal conditions.
Water levels are expected to rise and approach the curb near the intersection of King and Strand streets, according to the advisory. Shoreline areas in Arlington County are also included in the flooding forecast.
The flooding is projected to occur during high tide, especially from midnight Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday. Tides are expected to run 2 to 2.5 feet above normal, with high tide occurring at 12:11 p.m. Saturday and at 12:25 a.m. Sunday.
Residents are advised to allow extra time for travel, as some roads may become impassable. The weather service cautions motorists not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents living in flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions to protect their property.
