TIFF Marks 10 Years of Primetime with New Series Premieres

TORONTO, Canada — The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Primetime programme this year, which highlights exceptional international series and innovative episodic storytelling. Since its launch in 2015, Primetime has allowed audiences to preview prestigious series from around the world, emphasizing the artistic significance of television.
This year, the Primetime lineup features six world premieres, including The Lowdown, directed by Sterlin Harjo, who is an executive producer and writer on the project. The series stars Ethan Hawke, who also serves as an executive producer. Other highlights include Netflix‘s original Canadian series Wayward, created by Mae Martin, and a documentary series titled Origin: The Story of the Basketball Africa League, created by Richard Brown and Tebogo Malope.
“With Primetime, we wanted to not only showcase these incredible series but also to support the creators behind them,” said Geoff Macnaughton, lead programmer for Primetime. “The Q+A sessions allow audiences to gain deeper insights into the creative process.”
The festival will also host the North American premieres of several international titles, including Portobello – The Fall of Enzo Tortora, directed by Marco Bellocchio, and Balázs Lengyel’s Rise of the Raven. As part of the celebration, extended Q+A sessions with creators and cast members will follow all Primetime screenings.
TIFF’s 50th edition will run from September 4–14, 2025, continuing its legacy as a major player in the film industry.
