LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Golf legend Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that his mother, Kultida Woods, has died at the age of 78. Woods shared the news in a heartfelt statement, describing her as “a force of nature” and his greatest supporter throughout his life and career.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote on social media. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

Kultida Woods was a constant presence in her son’s life, from his rise to golf stardom to his personal struggles. She stood by him during his highly publicized 2009 sex scandal and subsequent divorce from Elin Nordegren. Woods acknowledged her unwavering support during a press conference at the time, saying, “I had gotten away from my core values… I quit doing all the things that my Mom and Dad had taught me.”

In June 2024, Woods paid tribute to his mother while accepting the Bob Jones Award, one of golf’s highest honors. “My mom doesn’t get enough credit,” he said. “She allowed me to get here. She allowed me to do these things, chase my dreams, and the support and love — I didn’t do this alone. I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom.”

Kultida Woods was also a beloved grandmother to Woods’ two children, Sam and Charlie. Woods expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested privacy for his family during this difficult time.

Former President Donald Trump offered condolences on Truth Social, writing, “Kultida Woods was an amazing influence on Tiger, and gave him much of his strength and brilliance. Melania and I send our love and prayers to Tiger and his incredible family!”

A cause of death was not disclosed. Kultida Woods was last seen publicly at her son’s TGL match on January 14, 2025.
