M25 Traffic Disruption Following Serious Motorbike Accident
A serious collision involving a car and a motorbike has led to the closure of the M25 motorway in both directions, causing severe traffic disruption. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 26, 2023, between Junction 5, near the M26/A21 (Sevenoaks), and Junction 6 (A22 Godstone). Emergency services, including Kent Police and the Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex, are in attendance at the scene.
Kent Police were called to the incident at 12:27 pm, and the motorway was subsequently closed in both directions to facilitate emergency response efforts. Authorities have advised motorists to seek alternative routes and expect significant delays in the area as traffic diversions have been implemented via the M20. National Highways reported that delays could extend up to six hours, with congestion back to Junction 4 Orpington on the clockwise side and to Junction 7 (M23 Interchange) on the anticlockwise side.
According to a spokesperson from National Highways, “Traffic caught up within the closure is travelling past the scene in lane 1. In addition, the M26 has been closed westbound between J3 and the M25, and traffic is being diverted via the M20.” The severity of the injuries and the number of individuals involved remain undisclosed at this time.
As of the latest updates, accident investigation work continues in the area. The situation has prompted substantial traffic delays along the A25 through Chipstead, Oxted, and Westerham, as local routes become congested with diverted traffic. National Highways have urged commuters to allow extra journey time and plan alternatives due to the ongoing road closure.
