In a heartbreaking turn of events, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District, has sadly passed away. The news broke on Saturday morning, revealing that Ubah had been receiving treatment in a hospital in London.

It’s reported that Ubah had flown to the UK just a couple of days prior, seeking medical assistance after falling seriously ill. In the last 48 hours, his condition took a turn for the worse, leading to his untimely death.

The exact cause of his death remains unclear as of Saturday morning. Ubah had a vibrant political career, being elected to the Senate in 2019 on the Young Progressive Party platform, and he was re-elected in 2023.

Earlier this year, he made headlines when he switched his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress, or APC, and had set his sights on running for the governorship of Anambra State in the upcoming elections.

Ubah’s political journey was notable, as he ran for the Anambra governorship in 2021, finishing fourth behind Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, known as APGA.

In addition to his political career, Ubah was a successful businessman, having founded Capital Oil back in 2001. He was married to Uchenna, a graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, and together they had five children.

Ubah was also known for his charitable work through the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation. His life was marked by both triumph and tragedy, including a close brush with death in September 2022 when he survived an assassination attempt that left several dead.
