Train Tragedy in Jamtara: Two Dead as Train Runs Over Commuters

At least two individuals lost their lives in a tragic train accident in Jamtara district, Jharkhand. The incident occurred at Kalajharia railway station when passengers disembarked from one train, only to be struck by another local train.

Kaushik Mitra, spokesperson for Eastern Railway, announced the formation of a three-member committee to investigate the incident.

Expressing his condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that he was saddened by the mishap in Jamtara and extended his thoughts to the families of the deceased.

In response to the accident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged railway authorities to revamp existing systems to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called for an impartial investigation into the incident to hold accountable those responsible for safety violations.

The Superintendent of Police in Jamtara, Animesh Naithani, provided details of the events leading to the accident, wherein passengers disembarked after a false fire alarm, resulting in the fatal collision with another train.

Jamtara Zila Parishad member and eyewitness, Surendra Mandal, recounted the sequence of events, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a tweet, President Murmu expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of lives in the train accident, appealing for immediate relief efforts and a prompt investigation.
