Trump and Biden Secure Nominations in Florida Primary Elections
In the Florida primary elections, former President Donald J. Trump emerged victorious, securing the Republican Party’s nomination once again. Trump garnered a significant lead with over 80% of the votes, eclipsing his opponents Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden, the sole candidate on the ballot, was awarded all 224 delegates as the party’s presumptive nominee. This decision by the Florida Democrats is in line with the tradition of backing the incumbent president for re-election.
Following the primary results, the designated political party delegates from Florida will convene at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to officially nominate their respective candidates based on party regulations.
The upcoming presidential election is set to witness a face-off between Trump and Biden, reminiscent of the 2020 contest. The last time such a rematch occurred was in 1956 between Republican President Dwight Eisenhower and Democrat Adlai Stevenson.
The Florida Division of Elections will oversee the process of submitting the chosen presidential candidates’ names for the general election ballot in November, as mandated by party protocols.
