Trump Unveils Renovated Lincoln Bathroom Amid Controversy
Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump showcased a newly renovated bathroom in the Lincoln Bedroom, continuing his extensive remodeling of the White House. This announcement was made through his social media platform on Friday, where he shared before-and-after photos of the lavish renovations.
Trump stated the previous design, completed in the 1940s, featured an ‘art deco green tile style’ he deemed ‘totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era.’ The renovated space now boasts black and white Statuary marble, which he claims ‘could be the marble that was originally there’ during Abraham Lincoln‘s presidency.
This renovation is part of a broader effort to modify the historic residence. Earlier this year, Trump initiated the demolition of the East Wing to construct a new multimillion-dollar ballroom but maintained that the changes would not interfere with the existing structure. The renovations are privately funded, with no taxpayer dollars used.
Trump’s alterations, however, have attracted criticism from preservationists and political opponents. Many argue these changes threaten the classical style of the White House. The White House responded, labeling critics as ‘unhinged leftists’ and defending Trump’s ‘visionary addition’ to the historic building.
Additionally, Trump’s changes extend beyond the bathroom. Earlier, he transformed the Rose Garden, paving over grass and replacing it with stone, and decorated the Oval Office with gold accents, including gilded mirrors and a presidential seal.
Democrats have leveraged Trump’s remodeling efforts to spotlight his focus on aesthetics amid ongoing political issues, including a government shutdown. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer remarked, ‘Donald Trump actually cares more about his toilet than he does about fixing your healthcare.’
In response, former President Barack Obama pointed out during a recent event that Trump appears preoccupied with renovations rather than pressing government matters, quipping, ‘If you can’t visit a doctor, don’t worry. He will save you a dance.’
The renovations come at a time when public opinion seems to be against the changes; a recent poll indicated that 56% of Americans oppose the East Wing’s demolition for the ballroom.
