UCLA Men’s Volleyball Falls to USC in Regular Season Finale

LOS ANGELES – The No. 2 UCLA men’s volleyball team lost to No. 5 USC in three straight sets, concluding their MPSF regular season on April 19, 2025. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.
The Bruins finished the season with a record of 20-5, including 10-2 in the MPSF, while USC improved to 20-6 and 8-4 in the conference. The Bruins managed a strong hitting percentage of .338 but were unable to convert that into a victory.
Cooper Robinson led the Bruins with 18 kills on 28 attacks, while Sean McQuiggan added nine kills and Cameron Thorne contributed five. Despite the offensive efforts, the Bruins struggled to maintain momentum throughout the match.
The first set saw USC take an early 9-7 lead before the Bruins fought back to tie at 9-9. A kill from Thorne gave UCLA its first lead at 11-10. USC, however, closed strong, scoring five of the next six points to secure the set at 25-22.
In the second set, the Trojans quickly moved ahead 11-7. UCLA chipped away at the lead and managed to tie the set at 20-20 after a lengthy rally. But USC regained control, winning three of the final four points to take the set 25-22.
The third set started with UCLA taking a quick 2-0 lead. After exchanging points, USC pulled ahead 7-4. The Bruins fought back to tie it at 8-8 and managed to narrow the gap to 16-15. However, USC’s late rally clinched the set and match with a 25-22 score.
UCLA’s next opportunity comes in the semifinal round of the MPSF conference tournament, set for April 25, against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. The match will take place in Malibu, California, at 5 PM PT and will be broadcast on B1G+.
