Van Jones Predicts Democratic Sweep in Upcoming Elections
NEW YORK, NY — CNN analyst Van Jones believes that Democratic candidates are set to achieve a sweeping victory in the upcoming elections on November 4, 2025. He specifically pointed to the New York City mayoral election and the gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey. “Democrats should win everything today,” he stated during an interview on Tuesday.
Jones, who previously served as an adviser to former President Barack Obama, expressed that a loss for Democrats would send a significant message about the current political climate. He compared the implications of a Democratic victory to those of a failure to win, saying, “If that doesn’t happen, that’s going to be a bigger message and a bigger shock to the system.”
He attributes this potential victory to the chaos of President Donald Trump’s second term, noting that independents who once supported Trump have become disillusioned with his administration’s handling of various issues, including the economy and immigration actions. “You will see that there were independents that gave Donald Trump a chance that now don’t like what they’re seeing,” Jones explained.
Scott Jennings, a CNN commentator with Republican leanings, also acknowledged the likelihood of a Democratic advantage this Election Day. “Democrats have gotten good at turning out reliable voters in off-year elections, and Republicans have faltered at this,” he claimed. Jennings pointed out that Trump’s return to the presidency has not boosted Republican turnout in other elections.
In the first general election of Trump’s initial term, Republicans faced notable losses in 2017. Democrats won key elections, including the governors’ races in Virginia and New Jersey, which were perceived as pushback against Trump.
This Monday, Trump endorsed Andrew Cuomo, a lifelong Democrat, in the New York City mayoral race. Political strategist Stephen Miller and entrepreneur Elon Musk also expressed their support for Cuomo. Jennings remarked on the potential impact of these endorsements in a fragmented electoral field, where candidates like Zohran Mamdani are competing.
“The best endorsement for Republicans [that] he could have is Donald Trump,” he said regarding Cuomo, but noted, “It’s a fragmented field. There is a Republican on the ballot, [Curtis] Sliwa. The fragmentation probably protects Mamdani and propels him to victory.”
In Virginia, Jennings remains skeptical about Republican Winsome Earle-Sears‘ chances against Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger. “Virginia hasn’t actually been all that reliable of a bellwether,” he warned, highlighting its history as a solidly Democratic-leaning state.
Current polling in New Jersey suggests that Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill holds an advantage over Republican Jack Ciattarelli, indicating that the party may maintain control in key races across the states.
