Woman Dies in XL Bully Dog Attack in Hornchurch Home
A tragic incident unfolded in Hornchurch, East London, as a woman in her 50s lost her life in a harrowing XL bully dog attack at a residence on Cornwall Close, as confirmed by the Met Police. The London Ambulance Service responded to the distressing scene but, unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead on-site.
Following the grave situation, armed officers swiftly intervened at the property to secure the area and successfully seize the two dogs involved in the fatal attack. These dogs, identified as XL bully breed, were safely contained within a room within the residence prior to the authorities’ arrival. The woman, who was the owner of the dogs, tragically succumbed to the injuries inflicted by her own pets, as reported by the police.
In a significant legislative change starting from February 1st, it has become unlawful to possess an XL bully breed in England and Wales without a valid exemption certificate. Owners of XL bully dogs are now mandated to have their pets neutered, microchipped, and adhere to stringent control measures such as muzzling and leash requirements in public spaces.
The ban on XL bullies was implemented by the government in response to a series of disturbing attacks involving these aggressive dogs. Instances of XL bully dogs assaulting individuals, including a shocking incident in Birmingham captured on video where an 11-year-old girl suffered injuries, sparked public outrage and calls for stricter regulations.
Furthermore, the grim reality of XL bully attacks was emphasized by the tragic death of Ian Price, 52, in Stonnall, West Midlands, after being mauled by two XL bully dogs. Similar incidents have underscored the dangers posed by these breeds, leading to heightened awareness and legal measures to protect public safety.
The Met Police continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal XL bully dog attack in Hornchurch, providing support to the bereaved family of the victim during this difficult time.
