World of Warcraft to Introduce Player Housing in Upcoming Midnight Expansion
After nearly two decades of player requests, Blizzard has finally announced that World of Warcraft will be introducing player housing in its upcoming expansion, Midnight. This revelation was made during the recent Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct, where the company saved the most anticipated announcement for the end of the World of Warcraft segment.
The announcement was accompanied by a cinematic teaser that showed a cozy home setting, complete with a chair facing a fireplace, trinkets and trophies on the walls, and an explorer relaxing with a tankard bearing the phrase “home sweet home.” This visual preview gave players a glimpse into what they can expect from the new housing feature[2][5].
Ion Hazzikostas, the game director of World of Warcraft, confirmed that player housing has been in development for several years. In an interview with GameSpot, Hazzikostas mentioned that the team has been working on figuring out the details to ensure the feature meets and exceeds player expectations. He emphasized that the current announcement is just a teaser, and more detailed information will be shared over the next year[5].
The Midnight expansion, which is the second entry in the Worldsoul saga, is not expected to release next year. However, Blizzard has promised a full reveal of the expansion next summer, as part of their 2025 WoW content roadmap. In the meantime, players can look forward to other content updates, including the first major update for World of Warcraft: The War Within, which will take players to the subterranean goblin capital of Undermine[2][5].
This addition of player housing aligns with features already available in other popular MMOs, such as Final Fantasy 14. It marks a significant milestone for World of Warcraft, addressing a long-standing request from the community since the game’s inception 20 years ago[2][5].
