YouTube Celebrates 20 Years with New Features and Impressive Statistics

San Bruno, California – YouTube is commemorating its 20th anniversary this month, marking a significant milestone for a platform that began with a simple 19-second video. As of April 2025, YouTube has amassed over 20 billion uploaded videos, including various formats like music, Shorts, and podcasts.
To kick off the celebrations, YouTube is unveiling new features and sharing impressive statistics related to user engagement. The platform reports that over 20 million videos are uploaded daily, and users leave more than 100 million comments each day. Last year, videos accumulated an average of over 3.5 billion likes per day.
YouTube Music and YouTube Kids are also celebrating their 10th anniversaries. YouTube noted that over 300 videos have surpassed a billion views, highlighting Adele’s “Hello,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” as a few of the fastest to reach this milestone, each achieving it within a matter of days.
New functionalities are also being introduced for YouTube users. For YouTube TV subscribers, a new feature allows the creation of custom multiview streams, expanding accessibility to a wider range of content. Additionally, creators will soon have the option to reply to comments with voice messages, improving interaction.
YouTube Premium subscribers in select English-speaking countries will gain access to an innovative feature called “Ask Music.” This feature enables users to describe their mood or desired genre to generate personalized radio stations. Furthermore, playback speed controls will now extend to a new 4x speed for mobile users.
As YouTube embarks on its third decade, the platform continues to evolve, aiming to leverage its influence in the digital video landscape. “20 years is a significant marker for a platform that has fundamentally changed online video,” a spokesperson stated.
YouTube’s anniversary celebrations include partnerships with major events like Coachella music festival, which have allowed the platform to be at the forefront of live music streaming and cultural connections. “We’re excited to be celebrating 20 Years of YouTube,” said Vivien Lewit, senior director of artist partnerships at YouTube, emphasizing the platform’s role in shaping cultural narratives.
