Zimsec Releases November 2023 Ordinary Level Results, Schools Warned Against Withholding Results

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has announced the release of the November 2023 Ordinary Level results. The results, which are available online on the Zimsec portal, can be accessed by candidates and authorized personnel for the next five days.

The Permanent Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education, Mr. Moses Mhike, has warned schools against withholding results from students due to unpaid school fees. He emphasized that the contract regarding the examination results is between Zimsec and the candidates, and schools have no legal authority to withhold the results.

Mr. Mhike stated, ‘Action will be taken against non-compliant schools, and we urge the public to provide us with information about schools engaging in such practices.’ He further highlighted that appropriate measures will be taken based on the Statutory Instrument provided by the Public Service Commission.

According to Professor Eddie Mwenje, the Chairperson of the Zimsec Board, a total of 270,129 candidates sat for the November 2023 examinations; this is a decrease of 3.1% compared to the previous year. The overall pass rate for candidates who wrote five or more subjects was 29.41%, an increase of 4.35% compared to 2022.

Prof. Mwenje also mentioned the positive increase in pass rates for female candidates, which stood at 30.1%, and male candidates, which stood at 29.06%. Special needs candidates also saw an improvement in their pass rate, with a percentage of 25.79%.
