Late-night Hosts Criticize CNN’s Promotion of Book on Biden’s Health

New York, NY – Late-night talk show hosts recently criticized CNN anchor Jake Tapper for promoting his new book about President Joe Biden’s cognitive health. The book, co-authored with Alex Thompson, reports on what the authors describe as Biden’s mental decline.
On Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart played clips of Tapper discussing the book, teasing viewers with claims like, ‘You will not believe what we found out.’ Stewart questioned the ethics of the promotion, asking, ‘Don’t news people have to tell you what they know when they find it out? Isn’t that the difference between news and a secret?’
Stewart expressed concern over CNN’s approach, especially with a recent announcement that Biden has been diagnosed with ‘aggressive’ prostate cancer. ‘Can CNN thread the needle? How do you pivot from excitedly promoting your anchor’s book to somberly promoting your anchor’s book?’ he wondered.
Stewart also mocked the situation further. ‘How f—ing weird it is that the news is selling you a book about news they should have told you was news a year ago, for free,’ he said.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump made headlines over the weekend with multiple social media posts. On Truth Social, he took aim at Walmart for price increases, suggesting the company should ‘EAT THE TARIFFS’ instead of blaming them for costs. He also unexpectedly criticized pop star Taylor Swift, saying, ‘Has anyone noticed that, since I said “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” she’s no longer “HOT?”’
Stewart responded humorously to Trump’s comments, defending Swift as his ‘best friend’ and attributing the dip in publicity to the end of her tour six months ago.
Trump continued his harsh criticisms, also targeting musician Bruce Springsteen. In a lengthy Truth Social post, he dismissed Springsteen as ‘highly overrated’ and criticized his political views. ‘What are you doing? Attacking Bruce is like attacking America itself!’ Colbert exclaimed in response.
