Oilers Sign Forward Curtis Lazar to One-Year Deal

EDMONTON, Alberta — The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Curtis Lazar to a one-year contract worth $775,000 on Wednesday. The 30-year-old from Salmon Arm, B.C., has played 572 regular-season NHL games, scoring 47 goals and assisting on 78 for a total of 125 points.
Lazar appeared in 48 games for the New Jersey Devils last season, contributing two goals and three assists. Originally drafted 17th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2013, he has also played for the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, and Vancouver Canucks.
During his junior career, Lazar played for the Edmonton Oil Kings from 2010 to 2014, winning two WHL championships and the Memorial Cup in 2014. He has also participated in 30 playoff games, recording one goal and two assists.
The Oilers made this move following the departures of forwards Corey Perry and Connor Brown as NHL free agency opened on July 1. In addition to signing Lazar, Edmonton re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Evan Bouchard to a four-year, $42 million deal. They also added winger Andrew Mangiapane on a two-year contract worth a total of $7.6 million.
Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid, eligible for an extension, still has one more year remaining on his current deal. Further details on the team’s offseason plans continue to emerge.
