Carson Whisenhunt Pitching For Giants

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants are set to promote left-hander Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento for his major league debut on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This comes as the Giants look to stabilize their struggling rotation following a disappointing stretch of losses.

Manager Bob Melvin expressed enthusiasm about Whisenhunt, stating, “We’ve been waiting for this for a little bit now. There’s a need for it.” The Giants are currently dealing with an injury to right-hander Landen Roupp, who has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation.

Whisenhunt, 24, was considered one of the top collegiate left-handers in the 2022 MLB Draft before a suspension hindered his progress. In his two seasons at Sacramento, he recorded a 4.42 ERA in 18 starts. Despite not dominating, he maintains a promising changeup and has improved his walk rate significantly.

Following a recent team loss to the New York Mets, where the Giants went 0-for-23 with runners in scoring position, Whisenhunt’s performance will be crucial as they aim to find success in the playoff race. The Giants have lost nine of their last 11 games and now rely on limited pitching depth.

Giants catcher Patrick Bailey, impressed with Whisenhunt’s skills, said, “I think he’ll be ready. He’s got really good stuff, and obviously, he has the plus-plus changeup.”

As the Giants make room for Whisenhunt on their roster, they will look for competitive innings from him to help improve their current situation. The upcoming game against the Pirates will be pivotal for the team as they continue their quest for a playoff spot.

Finally, with significant changes on the horizon and the trade deadline approaching, the team’s management faces difficult decisions to further enhance their roster. All eyes will be on Whisenhunt as he takes the mound in a critical matchup for the Giants.
