Foo Fighters New Drummer Ilan Rubin Show

San Luis Obispo, California – The Foo Fighters are set to take the stage on Saturday, September 13, for their first live show featuring their new drummer Ilan Rubin. The announcement was made on Friday evening, catching fans by surprise as the band prepares for an all-ages performance at the Fremont Theater, which holds 900 people.

This intimate gig marks a significant moment for the band, as Rubin, a former drummer for Nine Inch Nails, joined the Foo Fighters earlier this summer following the passing of their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins. On social media, the band teased fans, stating, “SOUND ON. See you Saturday in San Luis Obispo,” alongside a poster for the show.

Fans have been buzzing about a newly recorded track that the band has hinted at, showcasing a return to their signature riff-heavy sound. One fan expressed excitement, commenting, “Yeeees this is the sound we like… Good heavy riffs! The boys are back to what they’re good at and it feels good!!”

Other fans speculated that the new song might connect to older live sets. A fan recalled, “They played this in-between All My Life in Birmingham a couple years ago. Glad they’re putting it out soon!” Another chimed in with reflections on the similarities between the new track and past works, suggesting, “It’s definitely not live yep… Maybe they’re gonna release new versions of old songs?”

In the lead-up to the concert, the Foo Fighters had shared pair of cryptic teasers on social media, including a nostalgic nod to “My Bologna,” a parody song recorded at the local Cal Poly campus in 1979. They also provided a glimpse of Boo Boo Records, a beloved local music store.

The band has been off the road since September 2024 but has planned upcoming shows in Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Mexico City. Earlier this year, they released their 11th studio album, But Here We Are, which marked their first project following Hawkins’ death. They celebrated their 30th anniversary in July with music that resonates with both new and longtime fans.
