Scorsese Dicaprio Lawrence New Film Adaptation

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Martin Scorsese has officially signed on to direct his next film, an adaptation of the ghost story novel “What Happens at Night,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Reports indicate that production is set to begin in January.

Apple Original Films is currently negotiating to finance and produce the film alongside Studiocanal, which acquired the rights to the novel written by Peter Cameron in 2023. Patrick Marber is adapting the screenplay, marking a continuing collaboration with Scorsese.

This news arrives as anticipation builds for DiCaprio’s forthcoming film “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which is scheduled for release next weekend amid positive critical reception.

Apple makes a strategic choice for this project, having previously collaborated with Scorsese on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” also featuring DiCaprio. The studio has first-look deals with both Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio’s Appian Way.

The story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snow-covered town in Europe to adopt a baby. They stay in an expansive, largely empty hotel where they meet a variety of unusual characters, including a flamboyant singer and a mysterious businessman. As they face challenges in claiming their child, they begin to unravel their own identities.

Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on multiple acclaimed films over the last two decades. While this will be Lawrence’s first time acting under Scorsese’s direction, he previously produced her upcoming film “Die, My Love.” DiCaprio and Lawrence co-starred in 2021’s “Don't Look Up” directed by Adam McKay.

More details about the film and its production schedule are expected to follow shortly.
