Katie Thurston Breast Cancer Update

LOS ANGELES, CA — Former “Bachelorette” star Katie Thurston provided an encouraging update on her stage IV breast cancer treatment on September 19. In a recent Instagram post, she shared that her medical team has seen positive improvements as she prepares for potential surgery.

Thurston, 34, opened up about her experience navigating stage IV breast cancer, explaining the lifelong journey ahead. “The thing that people don’t realize with stage IV is I will be on medication for the rest of my life,” she said. “It’s like a maintenance plan, which is great but also can be scary.”

Thurston expressed optimism about her treatment progress, revealing that her next step is a scan scheduled for next month. This scan will measure tumor shrinkage and determine if she can proceed with a planned double mastectomy before the end of the year. “Things are working so far and we’re adjusting,” she added.

Her cancer journey began in February 2025 when she discovered a lump in her breast. At first, she thought it could be related to her menstrual cycle or workout strain. But as the lump persisted, her concerns grew, leading her to consult oncologists. Testing revealed the cancer had spread to her liver, resulting in the stage IV classification.

Although stage IV breast cancer has no cure, it is often treatable. Thurston’s ongoing support from her husband, Jeff Arcuri, is critical as she navigates this challenging phase. “Every month, I get my labs checked, and a recent batch was a little concerning,” she said. After some adjustments to her medication regimen, she feels hopeful about her treatment moving forward.

Thurston remarked that if all goes well, she hopes to face surgery, starting a new chapter in her recovery. “In November, I have scheduled my double mastectomy, which is like a whole other chapter I just don’t know much about yet,” she disclosed. As she adjusts to this life-altering diagnosis, Thurston continues to focus on both her health and well-being.
