Cowboys Look to KaVontae Turpin Amid CeeDee Lamb Injury
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are scrambling to fill a significant gap in their offense with star receiver CeeDee Lamb sidelined for several weeks due to a high ankle sprain. The team will need to rally and find someone to step up in his absence as they prepare to face the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.
Among the candidates is George Pickens, who the Cowboys acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past offseason. Although he has shown potential as a No. 1 target, he has yet to build a solid connection with quarterback Dak Prescott. This Sunday could provide an opportunity for that bond to develop further.
Another player expected to step up is tight end Jake Ferguson. He has been off to a strong start this season and emerged as Prescott’s safety valve last week after Lamb’s injury. Increased targets for Ferguson during Lamb’s absence wouldn’t be surprising.
However, KaVontae Turpin should not be overlooked. The versatile playmaker has explosive speed and can score from anywhere on the field. This is Turpin’s first season getting increased involvement in the passing game under head coach Brian Schottenheimer. So far, he has eight receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown, along with 19 rushing yards on five attempts.
Turpin’s skills as a return specialist are well-known, but opportunities to exploit his talents in the passing game may arise, especially playing from the slot with Lamb out. His capacity to create mismatches in one-on-one situations can give the Cowboys an edge if they can get him the ball in space.
Only time will tell how the Cowboys adjust their game plan, but utilizing Turpin’s versatility effectively could be a pivotal move as they face significant challenges in the upcoming weeks.
