Playstation Network Outage October 2025

REDMOND, Wash. — Thousands of users reported issues with Sony‘s PlayStation Network on Monday afternoon, according to Down Detector, a platform that tracks service outages. At its peak, nearly 9,000 users faced disruptions while trying to access the gaming service.

Down Detector noted that over 81% of the outage reports were attributed to server-related issues, corroborating social media posts from frustrated users. Many reported seeing the error code WS-11649-5 while trying to sign in. This error usually indicates problems stemming from account sign-in issues, region mismatches, or server malfunctions.

Users typically have some options for resolving the WS-11649-5 error if the issue arises from their accounts. However, as this outage was linked to maintenance work from Sony, there was no immediate fix available on the user end. For future reference, users are encouraged to ensure their account details match regional content and restart their consoles when encountering issues.

Frustration echoed on social media, as numerous users shared their reactions to the downtime. “PlayStation servers going down right in the middle of my game,” one user lamented. Another wrote, “Who does maintenance on a Monday night at 9:30 p.m.?” The outage has sparked conversations among users regarding the reliability of the service.

As of now, Sony has not released an official statement regarding the outage or when services are expected to resume.
